DASK

DASK

DASK (Compulsory Earthquake Insurance) covers structural damage to your home from earthquake and related perils: fire, explosion, tsunami and landslide. Valid DASK is required for title transfer, utility connections and mortgaged home loans.

What is and isn't covered

DASK pays for damage to the building's structural system. Contents, redecoration, glass breakage and loss of rent are excluded — you need separate home (fire) insurance. Maximum cover is updated annually by the Treasury with a per-square-metre cap.

What drives the premium

Province, district, seismic zone, construction year, building type (reinforced concrete / masonry) and gross square metres set the price. The same flat gets the same tariff from every insurer. Wrong square metres or building type leads to underpayment at claim time.

If renewal is missed

Expired DASK blocks utility renewals and title procedures. The policy must be renewed yearly; auto-renewal instructions help.

Is DASK enough?

After a quake, contents and temporary housing are not paid by DASK. Plan DASK plus home insurance together; basement units and older buildings should ask about flood cover separately.

Plot, parcel, unit number and building details are enough to issue DASK the same day.
