Travel Health
Travel health insurance covers emergency illness and accident costs on domestic or international trips. Schengen visa applications require proof of cover at €30,000; the policy must be ready before your visa appointment.
What to check in the policy
Cover limit (often €30,000–100,000), emergency and inpatient treatment, medical repatriation and repatriation of remains are critical. Lost baggage and trip cancellation are add-ons, not visa requirements. Destinations must be listed explicitly — "worldwide" does not always mean everywhere.
How duration works
Cover runs for the days between departure and return. Single-trip policies suit holidays; annual multi-trip cover can be cheaper for frequent travellers.
Relation to public health
Abroad, SGK may reimburse some costs in treaty countries, but upfront payment and paperwork are painful. Travel health insurance activates at the hospital, which is why separate cover is the practical choice.
Premium starts from a few hundred TRY depending on age, destination, duration and package. The cheapest policy that meets visa minimums is not always the best one.
