Traffic Insurance
Mandatory traffic insurance covers material and bodily injury you cause to others; it does not cover damage to your own vehicle. In Turkey you cannot drive, pass inspection or complete registration without a valid policy.
How is the premium calculated?
Under the regulator's tariff, premium depends on vehicle type, usage, registered province, driver age and your claims record (bonus/malus steps). Claim-free years earn discounts; years with claims increase premium.
Don't miss renewal
After expiry the vehicle cannot legally be driven. Leaving renewal to the last day often means higher premium or short-term cover. Request quotes 2–3 weeks before expiry to compare prices and keep your no-claims discount.
Traffic insurance is not comprehensive cover
Traffic insurance is compulsory; comprehensive (kasko) is optional and covers your own vehicle. Both matter, but neither replaces the other.
A plate number and national ID are enough for a quote. Different insurers often price the same car differently — coverage is tariff-based; the gap is usually in how each company prices risk.
- Regulator-tariff mandatory cover
- Premium by bonus/malus step
- Compare prices before renewal
- Valid for inspection and registration
